SHIATSU Shiatsu means ‘finger pressure’. Originally from Japan, this hands on therapy comes from a long tradition of energy, healing and bodywork. It is based Chinese Medicine’s (dated 5000 B.C.) theory that disease and pain are caused by blocked qi (energy) along pathways in the body, and that by applying pressure to the blocked meridian will provide relief from pain and help prevent disease. Different from acupuncture in the fact that there are no needles that puncture the skin. All of the pressure points are stimulated through the use of finger pressure, hands, knuckles, elbows, knees and feet. This form is very useful for treating chronic conditions or states of ‘kyo’ (depleted), by redirecting energy flow within the body. See complete list of ailments helped by shiatsu. A shiatsu session is very grounding and will leave the receiver in a state of calm surrender. It is done a futon, seated, or on the table. Client should inform therapist of any discomforts, limitations, or medical concerns before the session. Breathing, stretching, awareness, visualization, self care, and education are all important factors in any type of evolution (healing). Each session begins with an initial consultation where the practitioner will assess the clients overall health history, and address areas of concern, as well as define the clients overall goal from a series of shiatsu sessions. Client should wear loose comfortable clothing preferably in a breathable fabric such as cotton. Silks and synthetics are not good conductors of energy and may affect the session. Socks are not recommended since we eliminate toxins out the fingers and toes. See policies and disclaimers for more information.
